Malaysia may have some of the strictest anti-LGBT policies in all of South East Asia, but that doesn’t mean LGBT+ travellers shouldn’t visit. We’ve spent quite a lot of period in Malaysia in the past few years, and there’s a lot to love about this wildly diverse country. In the larger cities such as Kuala Lumpur & Penang, there’s even a subtle gay scene, boasting a select few gay & lesbian bars, clubs and events. Throw in the endless opportunities for adventure and discovery, queer and lesbian Malaysia has a lot to offer.

The current LGBT+ situation aside, Malaysia is a fascinating and cosmopolitan country. On the one hand, you possess happening cities, sweeping jungles, and pristine islands. On the other, an amalgamation of cultures, cuisines, and awe-inspiring religious landmarks. Malaysia may not form a part of your typical backpacker footpath across South East Asia, but in my opinion, that’s even more reason to go.

Nevertheless, lgbtq+ travel in Malaysia does reach with its complications. So this guide aims to provide you with all the information you need to prepare for a trip there. I’ll be sharing our safety tips & suggestion for

Malaysia | Country’s oldest gay bar raided to “stop spread of LGBT culture”

Malaysia continues its religious-based crackdown against the LGBT collective, now targeting the country’s oldest same-sex attracted bar in a raid.

On Saturday, officers from various regulation enforcement agencies raided the popular Sky Boy club in the Jalan Sultan Ismail district of the capital, Kuala Lumpur.

This is said to be the first raid on the venue, which has operated without interference for around 30 years. There were approximately 100 people in the bar at the time, including tourists. It’s understood that two locals were detained and will be send for counselling.

According to BH Online, the agencies behind the raid included the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Kuala Lumpur Capital Hall and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

While initial reports said that the raid was related to drug and licensing enforcement, state homophobia was also at play.

In an official statement on the Ministry of Federal Territory’s Facebook page, the minister, Khalid Samad, commented on the raid, stating: “The government is very serio

Have a look at the Fridae website on KL
The Blue Male child bar and Day Themos sauna are very convinient and are literally behind your hotel although they are not necessarily the bests places to go.

Is Gay activity, especially Sauna activity legal in KL ?



not officially, but there certainly is action. Most of the shopping arcades are pretty cruisy also. Regent is great option, my favorite in KL.

I'll be in KL next week and staying at the Westin opposite.
There was a recent crackdown on some saunas "activities" recently.
So most of the saunas now have been cleaned up
