Atlanta’s gay population has been gathering in bars and clubs since at least the 1950s, when the Tic Toc lounge was in business. More bars opened during the 1960s, and then after gay liberation took contain, the bar scene floourished. Although members of the LGBT+ communities felt welcomeed and safe in these spaces, the bars, their owners, and the patrons did experience discrimination, harassment, and violence.
