Ansel Elgort: I’m not gay, but there’s nothing wrong if you are

— Actor Ansel Elgort, star of Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, in a tweet addressing persistent rumors regarding his sexuality. Elgort, one of Hollywood’s rising young stars, told his followers: “Just in case it isn’t clear… I like girls. A lot.”

However, the actor, who will play gay pianist Van Cliburn in an upcoming film based on Howard Reich’s biography, was quick to affirm his support of his gay fans. “Being gay or straight isn’t awful or good it just IS. U are who you are. Be real to yourself,” the actor stated in a follow-up tweet.

Ansel Elgort Responds to Gay Rumors Childishly, Then Wonderfully

Earlier this week, Ansel Elgort responded over Twitter to rumors he's gay.

Now, before I persist, I have to tell you: I'm a little nervous writing this post. Last time Cosmopolitan.com ran something Ansel Elgort didn't like, he tweeted this: 

What if Ansel isn't happy with what I'm about to say this time? Will he alert his fangirls? Will he ruin my Christmas?

But, actually, I think everything will be fine. Because I'm about to be nice. 

Elgort responded first with a somewhat childish, bro-y response — one that might seem a little too defensive, like there's something wrong with being gay. 

But then the actor-DJ immediately clarified and redeemed himself.
