“Back in 2017 I was deeply hurt by the church and by God and vested my experience in advocacy operate for LGBTQ rights. Now I still do that, but the context has made a 180! I’m healing; I’m growing; I’m education to love myself, trying to detect my place on this topsy-turvy journey that we notify life.
I now acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and will be starting my second year of seminary as well as a congressional internship in the drop. I use ‘they/them’ pronouns and name as a Homosexual, BIPOC young senior. My faith is progressive, anti-oppressive, Christian grounded in the principles of the Unitarian Universalist faith.
I truly believes that a vocation in ministry means creature a voice to and for all those who can’t or haven’t yet found their voice; to those who have told they don’t have a voice or that they don’t associate, yet still extended for spiritual society and want someone, anyone, to utter to them that they are not broken, but rather that society is broken and that they are welcome here jus
The name Roddy Bottum might not mean much, if anything, to you. To some, he’s most notable as the co-founding keyboardist in legendary metal trailblazers, Faith No More. To criminally limited others, he may also be known as the guitarist and vocalist in power pop offshoot, Imperial Teen. In July 1993, however, Roddy found himself in the spotlight in the rock world as its first openly gay star.
Despite what social media or current events might advise, we live in comparatively enlightened times in 2018. LGBTQ issues are at the forefront of culture and media more than ever before, and as each successive generation grows more open-minded in its understanding of sexuality, repressive, heteronormative attitudes increasingly turn into a thing of the past.
In the summer of 1993, however, there was a sum total of zero openly homosexual stars in the rock or metal world. That was until Roddy Bottum spoke to U.S. news writer Lance Loud for a piece originally published by San Francisco magazine The Advocate, which was later adapted for print by Kerrang! in the UK (K! issue 444). Hard as it is to fathom in these liberal times 28 years later, the then 28-year-old Faith No More man’s revelation came

Roderick “Roddy” Talbot went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2025 after a lengthy illness.He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Rod was born on May 8, 1936 in the small, rural group of Manchester, La.When not at home, he enjoyed spending time with his maternal grandmother in Bell City, La.
After graduating from Iowa High School in 1954, Rod spent a brief time at McNeese State University, where he was a drum major.Then, in 1957, feeling led to serve his territory, Rod entered into service in the United States Army, where he was assigned to Army Intelligence in Germany.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, Rod returned home and married his sweetheart, Eunice Rae Frazier.They lived for a time in Atlanta, Ga., where they had their first child, Dreabon Ann.They moved to Gonzales, La., and Rod returned to college, this day attending Louisiana State University.There, he earned bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Interior Design.It was during these years that their second child, Stuart Gregory, was born.

Roommate is such a wonderful story. Beautifully written, Roommate is endearingly kind, painfully heartbreaking, and deliciously steamy. It’s an emotional bear hug. It will make you encounter so many feelings. And it feels so authentic. It will definitely be one of my favorite books forever.
Roommate is not technically part of the True North series—it is a conclude standalone and can be read as such, but it is part of the World of True North, and you most definitely get loads of its magic.
I loved everything about this story. It seamlessly meshed a not many of my favorites tropes without it getting too crowded. You have sort-of-enemies-to-roomates-to-friends-to-lovers, opposites attract, grumpy vs. sunshine, and a secret affair . It’s a treasure trove.
Sarina Bowen is such a talented writer. She excels at delivering sentimental stories in a lighthearted way that make you not only feel but also think. I especially love how she develops her characters, how she makes them singular and authentic and flawed and lovable.
